Original Penang Kayu Nasi Kandar

Had a big meal for Fathers Day lunch, so after sending sister off to airport, we went to Kayu Nasi Kandar for a light supper. Actually there is nothing light in calories in nasi kandar menu - everything is extra lard, extra salt, extra sugar!

Dad and max order tandoori chicken set, mom and i had roti canai which were all pretty standard item. Didn't even bother to take photo. While waiting for them to eat, I ordered a Roti Tissue just to nibble. This roti is signature to Kayu restaurant as it stretches 3 plates long as the cook outbeat each other to make the tallest possible roti tower. If one order two roti tissue, they will serve it as "twin tower", haha.. very funny, not.

The bite is light and it's very easy to nibble the whole roti in one sitting. Be very mindful if you are watching your weight as the process of making the roti is oil laden one. First the flour is mixed with ghee and salt to make into a paste. It is then thrown and spread thin onto a sizzling pan filled with generous layer of margarine. Once the roti is set, additional margarine is spread onto the surface to make the roti crispy. Sugar is then sprinkled all over the entire roti surface, once it's done, the roti will be rolled up to tower shape and drenched with condensed milk and syrup. Don't bother with the fat and calorie count, the figure will blown away your 12 digits calculator.
